Best Beach Exercises to do with a Friend
Who doesn’t love the beach!? Answer: Nobody. Beaches all around the world, no matter what time of year – but especially summer – are a great place to enjoy the scenery and being outdoors. Another reason beaches are the best is because you can do beach exercises with a friend! Using a mat or towel, the possibilities are nearly endless for a way to get in a great workout. Check it out!
Downward Facing Dog
Downward facing dog is a fantastic way to begin your beach exercises whether they involve yoga or not! Using your towel or mat, bend at the waist while supporting yourself on all fours. You do not have to place your feet flat on the ground; instead, bend deep enough so that your hamstrings feel the stretch!
Planking is so good for your core, back, hamstrings, glutes, and shoulders! It is also one of the best beach exercises because you can do it right on your towel or mat and can target so many different muscle groups with this one exercise. Be sure to keep your back straight and not dip your glutes and legs in order to maximally engage your core. You can also attempt one of the best beach exercises as a variation of this: the side plank. Simply stack your legs and use your forearm to support yourself! Keep those hips up!
Alright, you guys had to know that this one would be on the list of best beach exercises! You can do this on or off your mat, but be prepared for your heels to sink into the sand! As your heels sink a bit, focus on really pushing up through your heels while engaging your glutes and core for the ultimate squat set! This will work your glutes, hamstring, and core while getting you tan – nothing better than that!
Of all of the best beach exercises, this one may look the funniest, but its benefits are amazing. Definitely use your mat for this one so you don’t end up face-first in sand! Lay on your stomach with your arms extended next to your ears and your legs relaxed and straight. Then, engaging your core and lower back muscles, raise your legs and arms a few inches off the ground and hold for three to five seconds. It is harder than it sounds! Then, lower and give yourself a few seconds rest before repeating.
Adding this to our list of best beach exercises, scissor kicks help your lower core, an area that can be hard to target with just basic sit-ups and crunches. Lay on your back with your legs extended and your arms relaxed at your sides. Raise your legs a few inches off the ground and stagger their heights so that you can complete the crossover scissor kick motion. The key with scissor kicks is to keep your legs just a few inches off the ground and to not use your hands to support your booty!
