The Do’s and Don’ts of Detoxing!

The Do’s and Don’ts of Detoxing!

Now that Spring has finally arrived, it seems everyone is starting their healthy lifestyle plans in preparation for Summer! Amongst these plans are a myriad of detoxing options to prepare your liver for delicious cocktails on rooftop bars and all the other festivities that come with the sunshine! But what are the do’s and dont’s of saying “see ya later” to the toxins that creep in from daily life? Follow this list and get the most out of your detox!

  1. Drink LOTS of water
Most detox plans are brilliant at drawing out toxins, but in order to actually flush them out of your system you need to drink lots of water. It helps to detoxify your body, cleanse and also keep you hydrated.
  2. Exercise Regularly
Depending on the length of your detox, you should try and exercise every day for at least 30 minutes 3-4 times a week (each day if you can!). Toxins are stored in fat cells, so exercising and building up a sweat helps to remove even more of those nasties!
  3. Eat Clean
The whole point of detoxing is to rid your body of toxins found in processed and bleached foods such as white pasta, bread or packaged meals – this includes cutting out dairy, and eating organic and natural foods where possible. 4. Avoid alcohol!
I know, it seems obvious but this is a list of the do’s and dont’s after all
  5. Get plenty of rest
Getting lots of quality sleep is key to a healthy body, not just a successful detox!
  6. Stress less
When you’re stressed out, your body morphs into it’s natural fight or flight response, meaning crucial actions (like detoxing, digesting, cleansing etc) are halted in order to determine how to fight your stress. Try taking a yoga class, mediate or even have a movie night with friends and funny movies (without the unhealthy snacks of course)!
  7. When you’re eating, focus on it
We’re all so busy, that sometimes we multitask when we’re eating – by slowing down, and focussing on your meal your body will prepare for digestion. Proper digestion preparation means your body has time to hone in on your natural cues, which means you’ll only eat when you need to and you won’t over eat.
