Want to better educate yourself about food? “Rate Your Plate” will help!
The Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit based in Washington D.C. has created a website to make it easy for consumers to look up their favorite grocery item and immediately see a health score, to clarify any doubts they may hold about nutrition and ingredients.
The website is called “Food Scores: Rate Your Plate,”and contains over 80,000 products that is directed towards educating buyers about their food. This non-profit aims towards shifting purchasing decisions to the healthier choices rather than opting for the sugary cereals and pre packaged snacks.
The website and the soon to be released mobile app rate the food on a scale of one to 10. Each score considers the nutritional values, ingredient concerns and the amount of processing involved. In the breakfast cereal world, you can see where a box of Cheerios rates.
This website is designed to help consumers make the right choices about the food they are buying and how it is produced.
